Candy Cane Story

Jesus Gentle Shepherd,
this cane of red and white
proclaims the sweet love story
born on Christmas night.

This cane, you see, when turned around
begins your name of Love
and now becomes a symbol
of peace proclaimed above.

The lively peppermint flavor
is the regal gift of spice.
The white is your purity
and the red your sacrifice.

And so this cane reminds us
of just how much you care
and like your Christmas Gift
to us it's meant for all to share.

The children will be doing this a co-operatively and interactively. Meaning the motions are not going to be exactly the same. They will be holding hands together, to make a circle. Tait will step up, then step back while the two girls step up to do their line(s). Then pass the candy cane to the next child, all bending down together, only to have one at a time pop up....etc. So they need to come together to practice.

Alright, so today I looked at the Dove's Nest, the Gift Basket(?) and the Scrapbooking store and these are a couple of ideas I came up with.

Red clothes pins. They offer these at the scrapbooking store for 3.99/12 But we could paint regular clothes pins from Walmart. They come in a bag of a 100.

We could use them to hang white letters on red backgrounds. I don't know what the white letters would spell...Candy Cane? ...and with His stripes we are healed?...Dunno.

And of course they could be hung from this baker's twine.

What about programs?

Tall narrow programs. With two holes punched in the top of it with baker's twine pulled through and then tied into a bow. At the bottom. The verse with scripture reference. ...and with His stripes we were healed Isaiah 53:5

Candy Cane Coffee stirrers.

Please tell them they are going to use real china and not plastic plates!!!! You could ask different members if you could use their china. 12 tables, 12 women. You could use our white stuff (that's one down) and you have yours (that's 2 down) Or rent it. Each table has it's own bucket. (what, 8 to a table?) You can use my red napkins, inside the silverware, with a candycane tied on with bakers twine.

Make a candy cane wreath

We need a platform for the children to perform on 8x8, preferably. Contact surrounding churches??? Have it built?

Decorate with red buttons

Another idea, besides the scripture as part of the center piece is a jigsaw pieces. scattered around the main center piece (apples, buttons, candy canes, red and white clothes pins, peppermint candies, red and white ribbon,...hmmm maybe you could make each table a different red thing in the middle?) that make up a candy cane. Bill has made a huge puzzle for me, based on tracings that I have done with of course his "JIGSAW" . It could easily be done on a smaller scale. Painted, and/or scripture written on the inside edges... oh what fun and not too expensive.

Painted red children's/adult chairs to make a seating area with a side table (we have two) in the middle with an appacarthy jar in the middle filled with candy canes with lighting behind plants, use worklights on extenders? So you don't have to use over head lighting? What about a bench, and in the corner, another jar with candy canes in it? Think about extra lighting and extra "conversational" seating.

I have a red and white ghingham cloth....white towels from target. White table cloth, some white napkins. White mugs....4 white platters. 12 white plastic plates, 2 narrow serving dishes like to serve chocolate covered strawberries on. Feel free to use them.

Christmas tree with sewn goodies bags with the elder's name, and inside a candy cane and a thank you note, from one of the church family's. Of course decorated with white christmas lights and candy canes.
